four more days added to spring chinook season

Action: Sets additional four days for hatchery spring chinook angling on the mainstem Columbia River above Bonneville Dam.

Species affected: Spring chinook and steelhead.

Location: From the Tower Island power lines in Bonneville Pool upstream to the Oregon and Washington border, plus the Washington bank between Bonneville Dam and the Tower Island power lines located approximately 6 miles below The Dalles Dam (except for those waters closed under permanent regulations).

Effective date: May 7 through May 10, 2011

Daily bag limit: Daily salmonid limit is 6 fish of which no more than two may be adult hatchery chinook or hatchery steelhead or one of each. Salmon minimum size is 12". Release all salmon other than hatchery chinook and all trout other than hatchery steelhead. Release wild steelhead.

Additional rules:

Effective through June 15, 2011: For the mainstem Columbia River salmon and steelhead fishery from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the Oregon/Washington border, it is unlawful when fishing from vessels which are less than 30 feet in length, substantiated by Coast Guard documentation or Marine Board registration, to totally remove from the water any salmon or steelhead required to be released.
In addition, anglers may not possess in the field fish mutilated so that size, species or fin clip cannot be determined until the angler has reached their automobile or principle means of land transportation and has completed their daily angling.

Reason for action: There are upriver fish remaining on the harvest guideline for the area above Bonneville Dam, based on the forecasts and associated management agreements.
