Action: Closes the Columbia River from the Highway 395 Bridge upstream to the Interstate 182 Bridge to fishing for salmon (Yakima River confluence area).
Effective date: Aug. 6 through Aug.15, 2018
Species affected: Sockeye and summer chinook salmon.
Location: Highway 395 Bridge (Kennewick/Pasco) upstream to the Interstate 182 Bridge (Richland/Pasco)
Reason for action: Elevated water temperatures in the Yakima River has resulted in a barrier to fish passage. Sockeye returning to the Yakima River Basin are vulnerable to over harvest while staging in the Columbia River at the Yakima River confluence.
Additional information: Effective Aug.16 all areas of the Columbia River between Hwy 395 and Priest Rapids Dam will be closed to the harvest of sockeye.
The following sportfishing seasons are in effect for salmon and steelhead on the mainstem Columbia River, other than seasons listed in the Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet:
Interstate 182 Bridge to Priest Rapids Dam: Salmon, through Aug. 15: Daily limit 6, up to 2 adult salmon may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery jack chinook and sockeye.
Priest Rapids Dam to Rock Island Dam: Salmon, through Aug. 31: Daily limit 6, no more than 3 sockeye may be retained. Release all adult chinook and coho.
Rock Island Dam to Rocky Reach Dam: Salmon, through Oct. 15: Daily limit 6, no more than 3 sockeye may be retained. Release all adult chinook and coho.
Rocky Reach Dam to Wells Dam: Salmon, through Oct. 15: Daily limit 6, no more than 2 hatchery adult chinook and 3 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho.
Wells Dam to Hwy. 173 Bridge at Brewster: Salmon, through Aug. 31: Daily limit 6 salmon. No more than 2 hatchery adult chinook and 3 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho.
Hwy. 173 Bridge at Brewster to Chief Joseph Dam: Salmon, through Oct. 15: Daily limit 6 salmon. No more than 2 hatchery adult chinook and 3 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho.

Okanogan River (from mouth upstream to Hwy. 97 Bridge immediately upstream of mouth): Salmon, through Oct. 15: Daily limit 6, no more than 2 hatchery adult chinook may be retained. Release wild adult chinook, sockeye, and coho.
