Columbia River – below Bonneville Dam
chinook non-mark selective regulations extended for an additional day
Action: Allows retention of both hatchery and wild chinook on the Columbia River from the Tongue Point/Rocky Point line upstream to the Warrior Rock line.
Species affected: Chinook
Area: Mainstem Columbia River from Tongue Point/Rocky Point line upstream to the Warrior Rock line.
Effective date: Immediately through Sept. 7, 2014.
Daily bag limit: Minimum size is 12 inches. Daily salmonid limit is 6 fish. Up to 2 may be adult salmon or hatchery steelhead or 1 of each. Downstream of the Warrior Rock line only 1 may be an adult chinook. Release all salmon other than chinook and hatchery coho Sept. 8 through Sept. 14: Release all wild chinook. Sept. 15 through Sept. 30: Release all chinook.
Reason for action: Catch to date has been less than expected, allowing for unmarked and marked chinook retention with minimal risk of exceeding Endangered Species Act impacts allocated to this specific fishery. This change in regulations meets the policy (C-3620) objective for the season structure in this area by having non-mark selective regulations in effect for chinook through Sept. 7.
