retention season to end one day early

Action: Retention of white sturgeon is prohibited effective Sunday, July 27 (rescinds the final day of the previously adopted retention season).

Effective dates: 12:01 a.m., July 27, 2008.

Species affected: White sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River from the Wauna power line crossing at Rivermile 40 near Cathlamet downstream to the river mouth.

Reason for action: The 13,143 fish guideline is expected to be reached on Saturday, July 26. The previously adopted season extended through Sunday, July 27.
The season modification was adopted at the joint Washington-Oregon public hearing on July 24, 2008.

Other information:
White sturgeon retention in the Columbia River downstream from the Wauna powerlines is still allowed on Saturday, July 26. This section of the Columbia River will remain closed to retention from July 27 through December 31, 2008.
Retention of white sturgeon opens August 1, 2008 from the Wauna powerline crossing upstream to Bonneville Dam on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only.
The retention of green sturgeon is prohibited by permanent rule.
