Columbia River spring chinook sport fishery
closed from I-5 bridge downstream to Buoy 10
Action: The mainstem Columbia River from the I-5 Bridge downstream to the mouth (Buoy 10) will close to spring chinook, steelhead and shad angling. The entire area downstream of Bonneville Dam is now closed to spring chinook, steelhead and shad angling.
Effective date: 12:01am Saturday, May 1, 2004 until further notice.
Species affected: Chinook salmon, steelhead, shad.
Location: Columbia River from I-5 downstream to Buoy 10.
Reason for action: Closure of the mainstem Columbia River sport fishery in this area is necessary in order to stay within impact guidelines on ESA-listed upriver spring chinook.
Other information: The fisheries above Bonneville Dam are not affected by this action. However, the salmon fisheries currently open in Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day pools are likely to close beginning Thursday, May 6. A formal announcement will be made regarding this likely closure following the Columbia River Compact hearing on Tuesday, May 4.
