Columbia River Spring Chinook Sport Fishery Modified
from I-5 to Bonneville Dam

Action: The mainstem Columbia River from the I-5 Bridge to Bonneville Dam will close to spring chinook, steelhead and shad angling on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning April 22. This area will remain open Sundays through Wednesdays.

Effective date: 12:01 a.m. April 22, 2004 until further notice.

Species affected: Spring Chinook, Steelhead, Shad.

Location: Columbia River from I-5 to Bonneville Dam.

Reason for action: Modification to the mainstem sport fishery is necessary to stay within impact guidelines and continue the fishery as long as possible. The pre-season fishery plan calls for modifications to the area from I-5 to Bonneville Dam as the first step to reducing the impacts to upriver listed chinook.

Other information: The Columbia River will remain open 7 days/week below the I-5 Bridge for adipose fin-clipped spring chinook and steelhead, and shad. The salmon daily limit is 6 fish, no more than two adults. Minimum size of 12 inches. Trout (including hatchery steelhead) daily limit is 2 fish, minimum size of 12 inches. Steelhead and chinook with adipose fins intact must be immediately released. Wild cutthroat must also be released below Bonneville Dam. There is no daily limit for shad in Washington.
