Columbia River sturgeon retention fishery will reopen
early from Wauna powerlines to Bonneville Dam

Action: Allow retention of white sturgeon seven days per week.

Effective date: 12:01 a.m., Aug. 18 through Sept. 30, 2007.

Species affected: White sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River and tributaries from the Wauna power lines (near Cathlamet) upstream to Bonneville Dam.

Reason for action: Significant numbers of harvestable white sturgeon remain on the guideline for the Columbia River and tributaries above the Wauna power lines, providing for additional opportunity for white sturgeon retention in this area.

Other information: The October - December fishery remains unchanged, allowing white sturgeon retention only on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 1 through December 31, 2007.

The section of the Columbia River downstream of the Wauna power lines remains closed to white sturgeon retention through December 31, 2007.

The retention of green sturgeon is prohibited by permanent rule.
