Columbia River summer chinook
fishery changes to non-selective
Action: The mainstem Columbia River summer chinook fishery, from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco will open to the retention of both marked and unmarked chinook beginning July 1.
Effective date: Beginning July 1, 2005.
Species affected: Chinook.
Location: Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco.
Reason for action: Based on the projected run size and spawning escapement objective, both hatchery and wild chinook are available for harvest. Summer chinook headed to the upper Columbia River are not listed under the Endangered Species Act.
Other information: The salmon regulations for these areas revert to those listed in the 2005/2006 Sport Fishing Rules Pamphlet. The salmon daily limit is six fish, no more than two adults, and all sockeye must be released. Minimum size of 12 inches. Trout (including hatchery steelhead) daily limit is two fish, minimum size of 12 inches. Steelhead with adipose fins intact must be immediately released. Wild cutthroat must also be released below Bonneville Dam. Anglers are reminded that beginning Aug. 1 only one chinook may be retained as part of the daily limit downstream of Bonneville Dam.
