Columbia River will close to chinook retention downstream from Pasco for remainder of season

Action: Retention of Chinook salmon will close on the Columbia River from Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam

Effective date: September 19 through December 31

Species affected: Chinook salmon

Location: Columbia River from Buoy 10 upstream to Bonneville Dam

Reason for action: The Upriver Bright fall Chinook run size has been downgraded to 105,000 compared to the preseason forecast of 185,200 at the mouth of the Columbia River. The allocation guideline for this stock of fall Chinook has been achieved.

Other Information: This area will remain open for hatchery steelhead and hatchery coho. All chum, sockeye, and wild coho and wild steelhead must be released.

Location: Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco

Reason for action: The Upriver Bright fall Chinook run size has been downgraded to 105,000 compared to the preseason forecast of 185,200 at the mouth of the Columbia River. The allocation guideline for this stock of fall Chinook has been achieved.

Other Information: This area will remain open for hatchery steelhead and coho. All sockeye and wild steelhead must be released. Release wild coho downstream from Hood River Bridge and chum from The Dalles Dam downstream.
