Commission approves more days of crabbing
around July 4 in most areas of Puget Sound

Action: Puget Sound recreational crab season revised

Effective dates: Marine Areas 6 (eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca), 7 South (San Juan Islands), 9 (Admiralty Inlet), 10 (Seattle/Bremerton), 11 (Tacoma/Vashon) and 12 (Hood Canal) will open July 1 and remain open through Saturday, July 8, rather than closing July 2-4 as originally scheduled.

One extra day of crab fishing Sunday July 2 was also added to Marine Areas 8-1 (Deception Pass to East Point) and 8-2 (East Point to Possession Point),

Beginning July 12, these areas will then be open Wednesdays through Saturdays and the Labor Day weekend, with the possibility of additional fishing time in fall and winter.

Species affected: Dungeness and red rock crab

Location: Marine Areas 6, 7S, 8-1, 8-2, 9, 10, 11, and 12

Reason for action: Provide additional recreational fishing opportunity during the Fourth of July weekend.

Other information: Sport crabbers throughout the Sound will be limited to five Dungeness crab per day and all Dungeness crab kept must be recorded on a Catch Record Card
