Corrected: Marine Area 7 (San Juan Islands) to open for one additional day of salmon fishing

July 25, 2024

Action: Opens the salmon season for one additional day.

Effective date: July 26, 2024.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 7 (San Juan Islands) except Bellingham Bay and areas listed as closed year-round for salmon in the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet remain closed.

Rule: Open Friday July 26 only. Salmon daily limit is two including no more than one hatchery Chinook. Chinook minimum size is 22 inches. Other salmon, no minimum size.  Release chum, sockeye, wild Chinook, and wild coho.

Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 7 summer Chinook fishery indicate that through July 21, 67% of the harvest quota (1,465 of 2,181), 32% of unmarked encounters (1,228 of 3,845), and 26% of sublegal encounters (558 of 2,141) have been reached. Based on daily catch rates, sufficient quota remains to allow for this additional opening of the 2024 summer Chinook season.
