September 4, 2009
Action: The 2009/2010 Fishing in Washington rules pamphlet incorrectly lists the date for chinook release downstream of the Lewis River to the Rocky Point/Tongue Point Line as Sept. 13. Chinook are required to be released in this area beginning Sept. 14.
Effective date: Sept. 14, 2009.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Columbia River, downstream from a line projected from the Warrior Rock Lighthouse through red buoy #4 to the orange marker atop the dolphin on the Washington shore (upstream of the Lewis River) and upstream of the Rocky Point/Tongue Point Line.
Reason for action: The 2009/2010 Fishing in Washington rules pamphlet had an error in the date of the closure.
Information contact: Region 5 Office at (360) 696-6211.
Other information: The Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam is open to chinook retention through Sept.13. Beginning Sept. 14, chinook retention is only allowed upstream of the Lewis River (see description under location). The area downstream of the Lewis River remains open for hatchery steelhead, hatchery coho and hatchery sea-run cutthroat.
