Crab fishing opens in Everett-Port Susan area
Fridays through Mondays beginning May 16

Action: The recreational crab fishery in the southern part of Marine Area 8-2 will open to all sport crabbing on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays only starting May 16, 2003, until 9 p.m. August 11, 2003. Crab fishing will be closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Effective date: May 16, 2003, at 7 a.m.

Species affected: Dungeness and red rock crab

Location: Marine Area 8-2 is open except for those waters of Saratoga Passage north of a line from Camano Head on the south end of Camano Island to Sandy Point on Whidbey Island. The open area includes Everett/Port Gardner, Port Susan/Kayak, and Glendale/Langley.

Reason for action: Shell condition testing in this area indicates the molt has been completed and the area can open for harvest

Other information: Catch projections indicate the sport quota in the area to open will be taken by August 11, 2003, at which time this area will close to sport harvesting. If additional quota remains based on September catch record card survey data, the area will reopen for winter harvest opportunities. All other Marine Areas in Puget are currently closed to sport crabbing.
