Daily limit for adult chinook increased
on the lower Columbia River
Action: Up to two adult chinook may be retained as part of the salmon daily limit on the mainstem Columbia River upstream from the mouth of the Lewis River to Bonneville Dam.
Effective dates: Sept. 22 through Dec. 31, 2010
Species affected: Chinook salmon
Location: The mainstem Columbia River from Warrior Rock boundary upstream to Bonneville Dam. The Warrior Rock boundary is defined as a line projected from the Warrior Rock Lighthouse through red buoy #4 to the orange marker atop the dolphin on the Washington shore.
Other Information: Daily limit is 6 fish, of which up to 2 may be adult salmon or hatchery steelhead or one of each. Any chinook, adipose fin clipped or not, may be retained. Release all salmon other than chinook and hatchery coho.
Under permanent rules, the area from Beacon Rock upstream to Bonneville Dam closes to fishing for salmon beginning Nov. 1, 2010.
The mainstem Columbia River from the Warrior Rock Lighthouse boundary downstream to Buoy 10 is open for hatchery coho and hatchery steelhead, but remains closed for all other salmon including chinook.
Reason for action: Upriver Bright fall chinook remain available for harvest in recreational fisheries downstream of Bonneville Dam under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) guidelines.
