Daily limit increased for adult fall chinook on Klickitat;
season extended on upper river
Action: Up to 4 adult chinook may be retained. Anglers will be able to fish for Chinook in the upper Klickitat for one additional month.

Location: Klickitat River from the mouth to boundary markers below the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery
Daily limits: The salmon daily limit is six fish. Up to 4 may be adult chinook. Any fish, adipose fin clipped or not, may be retained.
Other information: From 400 feet upstream from #5 fishway (located about 3 miles upstream from the mouth) to boundary markers below Klickitat Salmon Hatchery, anglers will be able to fish for chinook through the end of November. The upper river had been scheduled to close for chinook retention beginning Nov.1.
Under existing permanent rules, night closure and anti-snagging rule are in effect from the Fisher Hill Bridge downstream. Only fish hooked inside the mouth may be retained. Closed waters remain in effect from Fisher Hill Bridge to 400 feet upstream from #5 fishway.
Anglers must have a current Washington fishing license as well as a Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement (CRSSE). Revenue from the CRSSE supports salmon or steelhead seasons on many rivers in the Columbia River system.
Reason for action: Returns of fall chinook to the Columbia River have reached record high numbers, including bright stock fall chinook returning to the Klickitat River. Surplus hatchery fish are available beyond the escapement needs. Increasing the daily limit and keeping the upper river open in November will give anglers additional opportunity to harvest the large numbers of returning surplus hatchery origin fall chinook.
