Drano Lake closed on Wednesdays during June

June 10, 2010

Action: Wednesdays, June 16, 23, 30 will be closed to all fishing.

Species affected: Chinook

Effective dates: June 16 through June 30, 2010

Location: Drano Lake downstream of markers on point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream of Hwy. 14 Bridge.

Daily limits: The salmonid daily limit is four fish. Up to two may be hatchery steelhead. Release wild chinook and wild steelhead. Release all trout other than steelhead. Minimum size 12 inches for salmon and 20 inches for steelhead.

Other information: Hatchery jack chinook count as part of the salmon daily limit. Under previously adopted emergency regulations, the bank only area near the outlet of Drano Lake is in effect through June. In addition, the anti-snagging rule has been rescinded for this year's spring Chinook fishery.

Reason for action: Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery has achieved the escapement needs for this year and is not taking any additional fish into the hatchery. Surplus hatchery spring chinook are present in large numbers in Drano Lake and the Yakama Nation will continue their Tuesday night fishery through the month of June. The sport fishery is closed on Wednesdays to provide access to the tribal fishers.
