Elochoman and Grays Rivers open for
hatchery spring chinook and hatchery steelhead


Action: Open Elochoman and Grays River for hatchery spring chinook and hatchery steelhead.

Effective dates: May 26 through July 31, 2007

Species affected: hatchery spring chinook and summer steelhead

Location: Elochoman River from mouth to Elochoman Hatchery Bridge located about 400 feet below the upper hatchery.
Grays River from the mouth to South Fork and West Fork Grays from the mouth to the hatchery intake/footbridge.


Reasons for action: Spring chinook straying from the Select Area Fishery Evaluation (SAFE) sites are entering the Elochoman and Grays rivers. Also summer steelhead stray into the Grays River. These fish are not needed for broodstock.


Other information: Daily limit of six salmon of which no more than two may be adults. All of which must be adipose fin clipped. Also, catch and release up to two hatchery steelhead may be retained.
