Fishing for adult spring chinook opens on
additional section of the Klickitat River

Action: Beginning June 1, adult spring chinook may be retained on the Klickitat River from 400 feet above the Number 5 fishway, upstream to the boundary markers just below the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery.

Effective date: June 1-July 31, 2004.

Location: The Klickitat River, from 400 feet above the Number 5 fishway, upstream to the boundary markers just below the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery. The Number 5 fishway is located about a half-mile upstream from Fisher Hill Bridge, and the bridge is about two miles upstream from the river mouth.

Reason for action: The Klickitat Salmon Hatchery is expected to reach its escapement goal of spring chinook, making more adult salmon available for harvest.

Other information: The salmon daily limit will be six fish, (no more than two of which may be adults). The minimum size for salmon is 12 inches. Chinook with or without an adipose fin may be retained. Under permanent regulations (see page 74 of WDFW sport-fishing rules pamphlet), this section of the Klickitat River also opens for trout and other game fish beginning June 1. Beginning Aug. 1, this section of the Klickitat River will revert to the permanent salmon regulations (see pamphlet) that keep it open to the retention of adult salmon.

The Klickitat River remains closed to all fishing from the Fisher Hill Bridge upstream to 400 feet above the Number 5 fishway. The Klickitat is also closed to all fishing from the boundary markers below the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery to the boundary markers just upstream of the hatchery. The river upstream from the boundary markers above the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery remains closed to salmon fishing.
