Fishing for halibut will close July 25
in Ilwaco


Action: Close recreational fishing for Pacific halibut in the coastal waters in Marine Area 1.

Effective date: 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2004

Species affected: Pacific halibut

Location: Marine Area 1, west of the Buoy 10 line at the Columbia River mouth, north to Leadbetter Point.

Reason for action: The catch quota for Pacific halibut in this area is projected to be taken by the end of the day Sunday, July 25. The fishery will likely remain closed for the remainder of the season. An assessment of catches, however, will be made after the closure to determine if any additional opening is warranted.

Other information: Areas 6 through 11 and Area 13 will be open for halibut fishing
through Saturday July 24. Area 5 will remain open through August 14 Thursdays through Mondays only. Area 12 (Hood Canal) remains closed.
