Four days of sport sturgeon retention
set for Bonneville Pool

Action: A second summer recreational season in Bonneville Reservoir opens to white sturgeon retention for two 2-day periods in July.

Effective dates: July 11 through July 12 and July 18 through July 19, 2014

Species affected: White sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River and tributaries from Bonneville Dam upstream to the lower sturgeon spawning sanctuary boundary from the east (upstream) dock at the Port of The Dalles boat ramp straight across to a marker on the Washington shore.

Reason for action: Sets a second summer white sturgeon retention period in Bonneville Reservoir. A total of 468 fish remain available for harvest from the 1,100 fish annual guideline.

Other information: The recreational fishery in The Dalles Pool remains open to white sturgeon retention through July 31 then closes to retention August 1 per permanent rule. Catch-and-release fishing for sturgeon will continue to be allowed during non-retention periods.

The spawning sanctuary from The Dalles Dam downstream 1.8 miles to a line from the east (upstream) dock at the Port of The Dalles boat ramp straight across to a marker on the Washington shore is closed to all sturgeon fishing through July 31. The spawning sanctuary from the Rufus grain elevator upstream to John Day Dam is closed to all sturgeon fishing through July 31.
