Action: Spring chinook salmon fishing reopens on the Grande Ronde River.
Effective date: July 5 through July 7, 2014.
Species affected: Spring chinook
Location: Grande Ronde River from the Highway 129 Bridge upstream approximately 12 miles to the furthest upstream Oregon – Washington boundary line.
Daily Limits: 7 hatchery Chinook (adipose fin clipped), of which no more than two may be an adult hatchery chinook salmon. Anglers must cease fishing when the hatchery adult limit has been retained for the day.
Reason for action: Based on modest angler participation and harvest rates during an initial 4-day pilot fishery and a continuing availability of hatchery origin fish to provide for harvest opportunity, an additional 3 day fishery will be opened in the Washington portion of the lower Grande Ronde River. The Washington fishery will run concurrently with a chinook fishery opening on the Oregon portion of the Grande Ronde River.
Other Information: The minimum size of any retained chinook salmon is 12 inches. Jacks are less than 24 inches long. The adipose fin-clipped hatchery chinook salmon that can be retained must have a healed scar at the location of the missing fin. All chinook salmon with the adipose fin intact must be immediately released unharmed.
In addition: Anglers fishing for all species, in the area and dates open for chinook salmon, must use barbless hooks.
A night closure is in effect for salmon. It shall be unlawful to use any hook larger than 5/8 inch (point of hook to shank) when fishing for all species. Bait use is allowed. Anglers cannot remove any chinook salmon from the water unless it is retained as part of the daily bag limit.
Anglers are reminded to refer to the 2014/2015 Fishing in Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for other regulations, including safety closures, CLOSED WATERS, etc.
