Action: Grays River will open to fishing for hatchery chinook beginning Thursday, June 1.
Effective Dates: June 1 through July 31, 2006.
Species affected: Hatchery Chinook salmon and hatchery steelhead.
Location: Grays River from mouth to South Fork and West Fork Grays River from mouth to hatchery intake/footbridge.
Reason for action: Adult spring chinook straying from Select Area Fishery Evaluation sites are entering the Grays River. These fish are not needed for broodstock. Hatchery steelhead potentially straying into the lower river are also harvestable.
Other information: The daily limit is 6 hatchery salmon, no more than 2 may be adults. Wild chinook must be released unharmed. Minimum size is 12 inches. The trout regulations in the area from the mouth to the mouth of the South Fork will allow the retention of two hatchery steelhead with a minimum size of 20 inches. Wild steelhead must be released unharmed. The All game fish (which include trout) regulations in the West Fork are unchanged from those listed in the 2006/2007 sport fishing rules pamphlet.
