Green Sturgeon retention prohibited in the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam

Action: Prohibit retention of green sturgeon.

Effective date: Jan. 1, 2007 until further notice.

Species affected: Green Sturgeon

Location: The Columbia River from Bonneville Dam downstream to the mouth.

Reason for action: This rule was adopted at the joint Washington-Oregon public hearing on December 14, 2006 to keep Washington rules concurrent with Oregon rules for the Columbia River.

Other information: The Southern Distinct Population Segment of green sturgeon was listed under ESA as threatened effective July 6, 2006. The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider adoption of a permanent rule proposal to prohibit retention of green sturgeon in recreational fisheries statewide at the February 2-3, 2007 Commission meeting.
