Harvest of sport-caught sturgeon between John Day Dam and McNary Dam closes July 28
Action: Retention of white sturgeon caught between John Day Dam and McNary Dam on the Columbia River closes July 28.
Effective date: 12:01 a.m., July 28, through December 31, 2003.
Species affected: Sturgeon
Location: The Columbia River and tributaries from John Day Dam upstream to McNary Dam.
Reason for action: The closure for retention of sturgeon was adopted because Washington and Oregon fish managers estimate that the harvest guideline of 165 fish will be achieved by July 28.
Other information: The reservoirs and tributaries between Bonneville Dam and John Day Dam remain closed to retention through December 31. The Columbia River and tributaries below the Wauna power lines are closed to sport retention of sturgeon through September 30. The Columbia River and tributaries from the Wauna power lines upstream to Bonneville Dam remain open to sport retention of sturgeon.
