Hatchery chinook retention allowed Aug. 18-21
in Marine Area 5, 6 Chinook Selective Fishery Area

Action: Allows retention of hatchery Chinook in Area 5 and in Area 6 west of the number 2 buoy immediately east of Ediz Hook.

Effective Date: Effective 12:01 a.m. Aug. 18, 2006 through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 21, 2006.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 5 (Sekiu) and the portion of Area 6 west of Ediz Hook at Port Angeles.

Reason for action: Estimates for the last weekend indicate that catch was lower than expected, leaving additional fish on the fishery management quota of 3,500 hatchery Chinook. The quota is expected to be reached with four additional days of fishing.

Other information: Both areas remain open to salmon fishing for hatchery coho and sockeye. Hatchery coho salmon catches should be on the increase.
