Hatchery chinook retention to close in Marine Area 10

August 15, 2018

Action: Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton) will be closed to the retention of hatchery chinook salmon beginning Friday, Aug. 17.

Effective date: 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2018.

Species affected: Hatchery chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton), excluding the year-round piers.

Reason for action: Preliminary estimates indicate that anglers have harvested more than 90 percent of the summer chinook quota since the fishery opened on July 16. The fishery will close to allow fishery managers to re-evaluate the catch and determine if any quota remains.

Additional information: Marine Area 10 will remain open to the retention of hatchery and wild coho salmon as part of the two salmon daily limit. Anglers must release chinook and chum. Sinclair Inlet remains open for the retention of hatchery chinook through Sept. 30. Anglers fishing the year-round piers have a daily limit of two salmon, one of which may be a chinook, but must release chum through Sept. 15.

For specific regulations, anglers should consult the 2018-19 Washington Sports Fishing Rules pamphlet available online at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/.
