Action: Opens retention of hatchery Chinook salmon and steelhead.
Species affected: Chinook salmon and steelhead; all species (see below, bank fishing only).
Effective date and Locations:
1. From Johnson Creek to Colvin Creek: effective May 14 to May 31. All species: bank angling only.
2. Salmon: From the mouth to Colvin Creek: effective May 14 to July 31. Salmon min. size 12". Daily limit 6; up to 1 adult may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook.
3. Steelhead: From Johnson Creek to Colvin Creek: May 14 to May 31. Steelhead min. size 20", daily limit 3.
Reason for action: Spring Chinook salmon returns to the Lewis Hatchery are projected to meet broodstock collection goals for the Lewis Hatchery programs. Modifying fisheries will provide additional fishing opportunities while still meeting program and reintroduction goals.
Additional information: Under permanent rules, the Lewis River is currently open for hatchery steelhead retention from the mouth up to Johnson Creek. All other permanent rules published in the Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet remain in effect.
