Hatchery steelhead daily limit will increase on the lower
Cowlitz River

Action: Cowlitz River anglers may retain up to three hatchery steelhead.

Species affected: Steelhead

Effective dates: Effective May 22 through Oct. 31, 2010.

Location: From the Hwy. 4 Bridge at Kelso upstream to Mayfield Dam.

Reason for action: There has been strong showing of hatchery summer run steelhead on the Cowlitz to date. Through May 15, a total of 165 hatchery summer run steelhead had returned to the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.

Other information: Under a previously adopted emergency action, steelhead with a clipped right ventral fin and a healed scar at the location of the clipped fin may be retained. Release wild steelhead.

Through June 4 all game fish except hatchery steelhead must be released.

Beginning June 5 the trout (including hatchery steelhead) daily limit will be 5 fish of which up to 3 may be hatchery steelhead. Minimum size 12 inches. Release wild cutthroat.
