Hoh River fall salmon fishery requiring selective
gear and release of chinook
Action: Selective gear and release of all chinook required during the fall salmon fishery on the lower Hoh River (Jefferson Co.) outside Olympic National Park.
Effective date: Sept. 1, 2015, until further notice.
Species affected: All species
Location: The lower Hoh River from the DNR Oxbow Campground boat launch downstream to the Olympic National Park boundary near the mouth of the Hoh.
Reason for action: The continued presence of summer chinook in the lower Hoh River necessitates extending the current protections for this depressed stock, including releasing all chinook, and requiring selective gear to
discourage targeting of chinook. These requirements will remain in place until river flows increase sufficiently to enable the summer chinook to move up river.
Information contact: Mike Gross, District 16 fish biologist, (360) 249-1210.
