Hoh River salmon fishing closed Aug.3-Aug.31, 2005
Action: Closure of the Hoh River to salmon fishing
Effective dates: Aug. 3-Aug. 31, 2005
Species affected: All salmon
Location: The Hoh River from the mouth upstream to the mouth of Willoughby Creek.
Reasons for action: Catches of wild spring/summer Chinook in the tribal and recreational fisheries in the Hoh River are little more than half of what was expected pre-season, leading biologists to conclude that the run is likely significantly lower than forecast. The number of wild Chinook spawners is projected to be below the targeted spawning escapement goal. Closing the river to retention of Chinook during the month of August will allow additional needed Chinook escapement.
Other information: The area which has been closed to salmon remains open for trout and other game fish as listed in the 2005/2006 Sportfishing Rules Pamphlet. Anglers should contact the Olympic National Park (ONP) regarding
potential changes to fishing regulations in ONP waters.
