Hood Canal gets additional days for recreational shrimp fishing

June 6, 2019

Action: This opens Marine Area 12 for two more days of recreational harvest on June 21, 2019 and June 22, 2019, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Effective date: June 21, 2019 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and June 22, 2019 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Species affected: All shrimp species including spot shrimp.

Location: Marine Area 12.

Reason for action: The target share for recreational spot shrimp has not been taken in Hood Canal. Additional days of fishing are being added to take the current State share of spot shrimp in Hood Canal.

Additional information: Even more additional days are likely to be scheduled for Hood Canal, and they are yet to be determined. Some marine areas including 4, 5, 6 (outside the Discovery Bay Shrimp District) and 7 West remain open for spot shrimp fishing. Several other marine areas are open for coonstripe and pink shrimp fishing. Check WDFW's website at https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/shrimp/ for more information.
