Hood Canal sport shrimp season
extended one day, June 7

Action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to extend the shrimp season one day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 7.

Effective date: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. onThursday, June 7, 2007.

Species affected: All shrimp.

Location: All waters of the Hood Canal (Marine Area 12).

Reason for action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to warrant extending the shrimp season for one weekday.

Other information: The Hood Canal shrimp district will reopen to recreational fishing for a sixth day because sufficient quota remains to warrant a one-day opener. The general reduction in overall effort on May 16th and May 23rd, contributed to a lower harvest of spot shrimp in the canal than expected. There is insufficient quota remaining to warrant opening Hood Canal on a Saturday, which generates greater effort than a mid-week opening, without the risk of exceeding the recreational harvest share. The fishery will reopen on a Thursday, instead of the standard Wednesday opening, because of use conflicts on Wednesday, June 6th.
