Hood Canal sport shrimp season
extended two days, May 29 and May 31

Action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to extend the shrimp season two days between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 29 and May 31.

Effective dates: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 and Saturday,
May 31, 2008.

Species affected: All shrimp.

Location: All waters of the Hood Canal (Marine Area 12).

Reason for action: Sufficient quota remains in Hood Canal to warrant extending the shrimp season for one Saturday and one weekday.

Other information: The Hood Canal shrimp district will be reopened to recreational fishing for a seventh and eighth day because sufficient quota remains to warrant a two-day opener. A general reduction in overall effort contributed to a lower harvest of spot shrimp in the canal than expected.
Note that the weekday fishery is scheduled on a Thursday, instead of Wednesday, to avoid conflicts with other user groups in the Canal.
