Kendall Slough (North Fork Nooksack River) closes to fishing

June 21, 2012

Action: Close Kendall Slough to all fishing

Effective dates: June 23 through Sept. 30, 2012

Species affected: All species of fish

Location: Kendall Slough, on the North Fork Nooksack River, from the mouth of Kendall Creek (Kendall Creek Hatchery outlet) to the markers at the mouth of Kendall Slough.

Reasons for action: A high percentage of Endangered Species Act listed spawning spring chinook have been impacted in the past by anglers that are trout fishing. There is evidence of very high pre-spawn mortality rates due to the associated handling.

Other information: On Oct. 1, regulations will revert back to permanent rules in effect as listed in the 2012/2013 Fishing in Washington, sport fishing rules pamphlet.
