Kids-only fishing opportunities at Reiter Ponds to be held the first Saturdays of June, July, and August

Action: Allow for juvenile fishing events targeting hatchery steelhead returning to Reiter Ponds on the Skykomish River. This section of the river will be closed to anglers 15 years and older during the times and dates listed below.

Effective dates and times: From one hour before sunrise until noon (with hatchery grounds opening at 6:00 AM) on the following Saturdays: June 1, July 6, and Aug. 3.

Species affected: Gamefish (steelhead)

Location: The Skykomish River, from the Reiter Ponds outlet to 500 feet downstream of the Reiter Ponds outlet.

Rules: This 500-foot section of shoreline around Reiter Ponds will be open to juvenile anglers only (14 years old and younger) on the first Saturdays of June, July, and August. Juvenile anglers will need to obtain a free fishing license and a catch record card (available from any vendor that sells fishing licenses) to record any steelhead caught. Anti-snagging rules apply in August.

Reason for action: Provides opportunities for juvenile anglers.

Additional information: This event is hosted by the Snohomish Sportsman Club and Sky River Anglers. Experienced anglers will be on site, with poles and gear to assist kids ages 5-14.
