October 14, 2008
Action: Chinook salmon fishing re-opens.
Effective dates: Oct. 15, 2008 through Feb. 8, 2009.
Species affected: Hatchery reared land locked summer Chinook salmon.
Location: All of Lake Chelan, except within 400 feet of the mouths of all tributaries.
Reason for action: Preliminary efforts to provide a salmon fishery based on hatchery reared triploid summer Chinook stocking have been successful. However, this fishery is in its infancy, much information concerning abundance and fish origin is needed to guide future management decisions. This fishery was previously opened with a one fish limit. This regulation increases the limit to two fish and is designed to evaluate catch rates of Chinook present in the lake. WDFW will be surveying anglers and the salmon caught in the sport fishery.
Other Information: Minimum size is 15 inches, Daily limit of 2 salmon. No catch record card is needed. Land locked summer chinook are not listed or protected under the Endangered Species Act.
