Lake Wenatchee opens to sockeye fishing

July 22, 2004

Action: Open sockeye salmon sport fishery in Lake Wenatchee.

Effective date: Saturday July 24, 2004 until allowable harvest has been taken.

Species affected: Sockeye salmon.

Location: Lake Wenatchee

Reason for action: The return of sockeye as counted at Tumwater Dam is strong enough to provide for a fishery.

Other information: Daily limit will be two sockeye salmon with a minimum size of 12 inches. All sockeye with a yellow plastic floy tag near the dorsal fin must be released. All Species - selective gear rules in effect except fishing from a boat equipped with a motor allowed. Anglers should note that barbless hooks
and no bait are required under Selective Gear Rules. Bull trout must be immediately released unharmed. Fishing allowed only from one hour before official sunrise to one hour after official sunset. The fishery will likely be closed by emergency regulation with very short notice once the allowable harvest is taken.

Important Notice: There is very limited access available due to parking limitations at Wenatchee State Park with no off-site parking available. Once full, someone will have to exit before another vehicle is allowed to enter the park. A $5.00 parking fee is required which includes use of the boat launch. A primitive
boat launch is also available on US Forest Service property but has extremely limited parking also.
