Lingcod season to open on March 12,
2005 in most coastal waters

Action: Open recreational fishing for lingcod in Areas 1-3 on March 12, 2005

Effective dates: March 12, 2005 to October 15, 2005

Species affected: Lingcod

Location: Marine Catch Record Areas 1-3, which extend from the mouth of the Columbia River north to Cape Alava.

Reason for action: Federal rules for these waters in 2005 open recreational fishing for lingcod on March 12. This is one week earlier than existing state rules for this fishery. This change will alter the state rules to open lingcod fishing in Areas 1-3 on March 12 to be in conformance with the federal rules.

Other information: The opening date for lingcod in Area 4 (the Neah Bay vicinity) is unaffected by this action. Area 4 will open to lingcod fishing on April 16, 2005. In Puget Sound, the lingcod season will open on May 1 for angling and May 21 for spearfishing.
