Lower Washougal River to close to all angling;
upper river to be closed daily after 2 pm.

Action: Washougal River from Mt. Norway Bridge downstream to close to all angling; Mt. Norway Bridge upstream to be closed daily from 2 pm. to one hour before official sunrise beginning Monday.

Species affected: All species including salmon and steelhead.

Effective date and locations: July 18, 2015, until further notice

Washougal River from mouth upstream to Mt. Norway Bridge - Closed to all angling.

Washougal River from Mt. Norway Bridge upstream to Salmon Falls Bridge - Closed to angling daily from 2 pm. to one hour before official sunrise.

Reason for action: The Washougal River is experiencing extremely low flows and above normal water temperatures that may affect survival of ESA-listed wild summer steelhead and wild salmon handled during this fishery. Water temperatures can be higher on the lower river, necessitating a complete closure. The upper river remains open to fishing in the morning hours when water temperatures are cooler.

Other information: Night closure and anti-snagging rules above the Mt. Norway Bridge will be implemented several days early to help reduce possible snagging of salmon and steelhead. Only fish hooked inside the mouth may be retained.

Little Washougal River and West (North) Fork Washougal River will remain open under permanent rules. Washougal River from Salmon Falls Bridge upstream to source remains closed waters.
