Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound) opens to salmon fishing

May 20, 2025

Action: Re-opens salmon seasons under permanent rules as listed in the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective date: May 20, 2025.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound) encompasses all waters south of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Reason for action: Federal Endangered Species Act consultations on 2025-2026 Puget Sound salmon fisheries have been completed, and a Biological Opinion and Incidental Take Statement have been issued.  Accordingly, Marine Area 13 (South Puget Sound) salmon fisheries can be re-opened consistent with preseason fishing plans.

Additional information: Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website prior to fishing. Refer to the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for fishing rules.
