Action:  Suspends retention of all Salmon in Marine Area 6, West of Ediz Hook.

Effective date:  August 3 through Aug. 15, 2022.

Species affected:  Salmon

Location:  Marine Area 6 Chinook Selective Fishery Area; Marine Area 6 waters west of a true north/south line through the #2 Buoy immediately east of Ediz Hook, excluding Port Angeles Harbor and Freshwater Bay areas.

Rule:  Salmon fishing is closed until August 16.

Reason for action:   Catch rates have been high to date in Marine Area 6, and anglers have reached 88% of the legal encounters quota (9,400) for the season through July 24th. A temporary total closure is necessary to ensure there are enough Chinook impacts available for coho opportunities later in the summer.

Additional information:  To be notified of fishing rule changes as they are announced, anglers are encouraged to sign up for the WDFW email notification lists at https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
