Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet) closes for Chinook salmon retention; opens daily for hatchery coho and pink salmon

July 27, 2023

Action: Closes Chinook salmon retention. Opens daily for hatchery coho and pink salmon.

Effective date: July 29 through July 31, 2023.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet).

Rules: Salmon open daily. Daily limit is two. No minimum size. Release Chinook, chum, and wild coho salmon.

Reason for action: Catch estimates for the Marine Area 9 summer Chinook salmon fishery indicate that through July 22, 84% of the harvest quota (3,633 of 4,300) has been reached. This reduction is necessary to stay within management guidelines and will allow for early opening of the coho and pink salmon directed fishery, originally scheduled for Aug. 1.

Additional information: The Edmonds Public Fishing Pier remains open under rules and seasons listed in the 2023/24 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet. Consider downloading the FishWA app or signing up for fishery change notifications by email at https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
