June 17, 2022

Actions:

Opens Marine Areas 8-1 and 8-2 for an additional day of recreational spot shrimp harvest on June 23, 2022 from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.

Opens Marine Area 12 for an additional day of recreational spot shrimp harvest on July 6, 2022 from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.

Opens the recreational non-spot shrimp fishery in Marine Areas 9 and 11 on June 15, 2022 through October 15, 2022 with a 150 foot maximum fishing depth restriction.

Effective dates: June 17, 2022; June 23, 2022; July 6, 2022.

Species affected: All shrimp species including spot shrimp.

Location: Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, 9, 11, and 12.

Reason for action: The target shares for recreational spot shrimp are not projected to have been taken in Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, and 12 with the dates previously announced. One day is being added to take the State share of spot shrimp in these areas.

Additionally, the recreational non-spot shrimp fishery will open in Marine Areas 9 and 11 on June 17 now that spot shrimp fisheries have concluded.

Additional information: Some marine areas including 4, 5, 6 (outside the Discovery Bay Shrimp District), 7 West, and 12 have remaining dates in their spot shrimp seasons. Marine Area 13 opened on June 1 for recreational non-spot (coonstripe, dock, and pink) shrimp fishing. Shrimp pots with a minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch are allowed in those areas which open for non-spot shrimp only fishing.
