North Fork Stillaguamish River
will re-open to fishing

Action: The (currently closed) section of the North Fork Stillaguamish River in the Fortson area will re-open to fishing Feb. 1, 2009, and will remain open until Feb. 28, 2009 (as listed in the Fishing in Washington sportfishing rules pamphlet).

Effective dates: Feb. 1, 2009

Species affected: Trout and all game fish

Location: The portion of the North Fork Stillaguamish River from Whitehorse Bridge, downstream to the French Creek confluence (approximately 4 river miles), will re-open for fishing.

Reasons for action: The North Fork Stillaguamish fishing closure was implemented to help increase the number of hatchery winter steelhead returning to the Whitehorse Hatchery. Collection of hatchery winter steelhead broodstock at the Whitehorse facility will end on Jan. 31, 2009, and the river will re-open to fishing the following day.

Other information: On Feb. 1, 2009, the fishery will revert to seasons as listed in the 2008/09 Fishing in Washington rules pamphlet.
