Ocean Area 1 closes to retention of chinook

September 8, 2005

Action: Implement chinook non-retention in Ocean Area 1.

Effective dates: September 9, 2005-September 30

Species affected: Chinook

Location: Ocean Area 1 from Cape Falcon, Oregon to Leadbetter Point, Washington

Reason for action: Approaching overall chinook quota for ocean fisheries and Area 1 has exceeded its chinook guideline.

Other information: Will reduce chinook catches to help keep all ocean areas open longer for recreational opportunity. Chinook retention is still allowed in Marine Areas 2, 3 and 4. Enough chinook remain in the overall chinook quota to allow chinook retention in Marine Areas 2, 3 and 4, and to allow access to coho in all marine areas.
