Opening fishing day delayed at Curl Lake

April 17, 2017

Action: Delays the opening date of Curl Lake from April 22 to May 15. No fishing is allowed from April 22 through May 14.

Dates: April 22 through May 14, 2017.

Location: Curl Lake (Columbia County)

Species affected: Trout and other game fish.

Reason for action: Curl Lake has been utilized by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) as an acclimation pond for Tucannon River spring chinook salmon, which are listed under the federal Endangered Species Act. WDFW also will acclimate ESA-listed Tucannon River steelhead for a short time after the spring chinook have been released. The additional time needed to acclimate steelhead will delay the stocking of rainbow trout into this body of water by a couple of weeks.

Other Information: Anglers should note that once the lake is open to fishing on May 15, the regulations will be the same as those listed in the pamphlet and should refer to the 2016/2017 Fishing in Washington sport fishing rules pamphlet.

Information Contact: Jeremy Trump, District 3 Fish Biologist, (509) 382-1005.
