Portion of the Klickitat River opens
for retention of adult hatchery Chinook
Action: Fishing for adult Chinook opens on additional section of the Klickitat River
Effective dates: Saturday, July 1 through July 31, 2006
Species affected: Chinook salmon
Location: The Klickitat River from 400 feet above #5 fishway, upstream to the boundary markers just below the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery. The #5 fishway is located about one-half mile upstream from Fisher Hill Bridge, and the bridge is about two miles upstream from the river mouth.
Reasons for action: The Klickitat Salmon Hatchery is expected to reach its escapement goal of spring Chinook, making more hatchery adult salmon available for harvest.
Other information: The salmon daily limit will be six fish, but no more than 2 adults. The salmon minimum size is 12 inches. Release wild Chinook. Under permanent regulations (see page 75 of sportfishing rules pamphlet), this section of the Klickitat River also opened for trout and other gamefish beginning June 1. Beginning August 1, this section of the Klickitat River will revert to the permanent salmon regulations (see pamphlet) that keep it open to the retention of adult salmon.
The Klickitat River remains closed to all fishing from the Fisher Hill Bridge upstream to 400 feet above the #5 fishway. The Klickitat is also closed to all fishing from the boundary markers below Klickitat Salmon Hatchery to the boundary markers just upstream of the Hatchery.
The section of river from the boundary markers above the Klickitat Salmon Hatchery upstream also remains closed to fishing for salmon.
