Puget Sound crab season opens June 1 in Marine Area 13

May 27, 2015

Action: Opens recreational crabbing in Marine Area 13

Effective Dates: June 1 through Sept. 7, 2015.

Species affected: Dungeness and red rock crab

Location: Marine Area 13

Reason for action: Recent test fisheries in Marine Area 13 indicate the peak molting period in area 13 has occurred and the crab are ready for harvest.

Other information: The June 1 starting date for the crab fishery in Marine Area 13 will give crabbers an extra month to catch their quota in those waters, similar to last season. Crabbing is allowed seven days per week.

Test fisheries are scheduled for other Puget Sound marine areas in May and early June and seasons for the upcoming summer crab fishery will be posted on WDFW's website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/.
