Recreational halibut fishing closes in Westport

Action: Marine Area 2 closes for halibut fishing; anglers may not fish for, retain, possess or land Pacific halibut into Marine Area 2.

Effective dates: 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Species affected: Pacific halibut

Location: Marine Fish Catch Area 2

Reasons for action: The South Coast (Westport) recreational halibut fishery is projected to attain its portion of the Pacific halibut quota.

Other information: Bottomfish fishing will remain open in Marine Area 2. There is a 30-fathom depth restriction in place in Area 2 through June 15, 2007. Anglers may not fish for, retain, possess or land any rockfish or lingcod caught seaward of a line approximating 30 fms offshore.
