Recreational shrimp fishing closing
from Seattle to Deception Pass

Action: Recreational shrimp fishing is closed, effective immediately, in Marine Area 9 (including the Port Townsend Shrimp District), until further notice. In addition, recreational shrimp fishing will close Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 9:30 p.m. in Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2 and 10, until further notice.

Effective date: Immediately in Marine Area 9. May 1, 2003, at 9:30 p.m. in Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2 and 10.

Species affected: All shrimp species.

Location: All waters of Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2, 9 and 10.

Reason for action: The recreational spot shrimp quotas in these Marine Areas will be reached by the effective dates.

Other information: Marine Areas 8-1,8-2, and 9 (outside of the Port Townsend Shrimp District) will reopen in a few weeks for non-spot shrimp only, with a 150 foot maximum fishing depth restriction. Port Townsend Shrimp District will also reopen in a few weeks for non-spot shrimp only, with an area restriction. Refer to the 2003-04 Fishing in Washington pamphlet for a description of that district. Recreational shrimp fishing in Hood Canal will open on May 17.
